Free-standing cash machines, filled and serviced. Put a cash machine in every shop that has not got one.
From the late 1990s firms other than banks may put cash machines in shops, pubs and petrol stations and charge customers or the network for each withdrawal. The operator buys or leases the machines, fills them with cash, keeps them working and shares the fee with the shop. As cash use falls and the network cuts its fees, the machines earn less each year.
