A boat, a quota and the weather. Go to sea when the weather and the quota let you.
A boat earns nothing tied up, and between winter gales and a licence that limits what you may land, a fortnight can pass without a trip. Quota is the real asset: you can buy or lease it, and without enough of the right species the boat cannot work its grounds. Crew are paid a share of the catch rather than a wage, fuel and ice come off the top, and the price at market is set the morning you land.
