Private hire booked on a phone. Put a car at the kerb in four minutes, booked and paid on a phone.
A ride-hailing operator is a private hire operator with an app instead of a radio room. Drivers bring their own cars and work when they like, passengers see the price and the car before it arrives, and the operator takes a share of every fare. The licence comes from the council, or from Transport for London, and can be refused. Since 2021 the courts have said the drivers are workers, with the minimum wage and holiday pay that follow.
