Steelworks
Steelworks: Iron, steel and plate for everybody else's works. A steelworks turns ore, coke and scrap into steel in furnaces that cannot be allowed to go cold…
Iron, steel and plate for everybody else's works. Make the steel every shipyard and car plant is waiting for.
A steelworks turns ore, coke and scrap into steel in furnaces that cannot be allowed to go cold, so the works runs day and night whether the orders are there or not. Demand follows shipbuilding, cars and construction, and government watches the price for most of the century. The industry is nationalised twice: from 1951 to 1953, and from 1967 until British Steel is sold in 1988.
