Dishes, subscriptions and the rights to the big match. Put a dish on every house that wants more than four channels.
Sky launches in February 1989 from a Luxembourg satellite, and a rival consortium launches its own service the next year. The two lose money so fast that they merge in November 1990. The business is subscriptions, a dish on the wall and exclusive rights, and once the Premier League is bought in 1992 the subscribers follow. The regulator licenses the channels and watches the prices.
